Juicing For Hair Loss

Juicing For Hair Loss.

It was my father in law who intrigued me to write this article, juicing for hair loss.  His hair has been getting thinner and thinner ever since I have known him. His silver hair has slowly been dropping out causing him to have a shiny patch of scalpe showing through commonly known as a bald pate.  Non the less, in this balding time of his life, he was not outwardly bothered about it.

Juicing For Hair LossAmazed and joyful he rang up one day to say that he was growing new hair. Lots of new healthy, not grey, but black hair, the sort he had in his youth before he started to go grey.  Now I thought this very interesting as the only thing he was doing differently was juicing once a day!  He had not gone about his juicing with the aim of hair regain, only to benefit from its overall life giving power.  The time he had been juicing for was about 8 months or so.

You can see from the picture the black hair growth. This was not there before he started to juice.

Hair loss can happen for several reasons just the onset of ageing which is probably the most the prolific but bad diet, stress, lack of sleep, illness, trauma and genetics are other causes that can lead to hair loss. Both men and women are both susceptible.

I wanted to find the facts behind hair loss and find the appropriate juices to combat it through diet.

As we know juicing is great for overall health, vitality and fitness.  So I was surprised to find that some people who had been on juice fasts had experienced hair loss to some degree. Getting to the root of the matter I learnt that if the bodies overall state is acidic (which is not favourable for good health) then when a juice fast is started the body rids itself of toxins and excess proteins that it does not need. Not every one that does a juice fast experiences this but it should be noted here that soon after the body has gained its correct state i.e.  it becomes alkaline again the hair growth does come back.

Most people that do a juice fast see remarkable results from thickening of the hair and better growth.  So if you are experiencing this short term hair loss from juicing, its your body clearing itself out and starting again… so keep going it should be worth it as your healing yourself from the inside out

Some juicing ingredients would be ones that ideally contain sources of vitamins B, C,E,

Essential for health and hair growth: Vitamin B complex’s such as leafy greens and green vegetables.  . They can be found in whole grains, potatoes, bananas, lentils, chili peppers, beans, brewers yeast and molasses.

Vitamin C, You probably think citrus fruits, oranges, lemons, limes etc.  Vegetables are rich in vitamin C. It can improve your circulation to the scalpe.  Juice broccoli, green pepper parlsely and of course lemons, limes, grapefruit etc

For hair health and enhanced hair growth vitamin E is required.   Greens that contain vitamin E include spinach, collards, mustard greens, swiss chard and turnip greens.  It is also found in eggs, nuts and seeds.

Juicing For Hairloss

My research for the best recipe’s for juicing for hair loss led me to find Chemo Hair Loss Juice Recipe by Pura Vida Pantry on Facebook. Touched by her story and knowing how traumatic Chemo is, I thought this recipe apt. I am in no doubt know it is there to be shared for the benefit of all mankind.

 Juicing For Hair Loss

“Hair-thickening Juice:

1 Cup Sprouts (alfa-alfa is a good choice but any sprouts will do)

1 Cabbage Leaves or 2 Brussel Sprouts

1 Cup Broccoli Florets

1 (Medium) Carrot

2 Slices Red Onion

1 Medium Beet & Beet Greens

1/2-1 Clove Garlic (optional, but good!)

If you need to sweeten this, add a couple slices of watermelon.

If you still don’t love it, add a couple apples until it tastes perfect!  Apples are fabulous for your skin as well.  That never hurts!

~~cabbage/broccoli/brussel sprouts/onion/garlic are all high in organic sulphur, which stimulates growth of healthy hair~~

~~carrot/broccoli/beets are all high in beta carotene which reduces inflammation in the scalp—to help u grow more hair

~~garlic improves circulation of oxygen rich blood to the scalp, also helping you begin to grow thicken, new hair.”

Other Juicing For Hair Loss Recipe’s

Hair Growth Tonic

  • Hand full dark green cale
  • 4 carrots.
  • 2 apples
  • Half cup of alfalfa sprouts

Great Green Hair Regime

  • 3 large broccoli florets
  • 2-3 green apples, seeded
  • Handfull of spinach.
  • Whole Lime (pith off)

Lean Green Hair Repair

  • 2oz wheat grass/ frozen
  • Half a handful parsley,  hand full coriander (cilantro)
  • 4 carrots Cleaned of greens and skin)
  • 1 stalk celery
  • ½ cup chopped fennel
  • Half an apple, seeded

Handsome Hair

  • Handful parsley
  • Handful spinach
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 2 stalks celery

Even onion juice massaged into raw the scalpe helps stimulating the acidity / alkalinity balance of the scalpe. Ginger root Juice also stimulates the scalp from the outside. Like using tea tree extract ( a natural anti septic) you can feel your hair and head tingle with a pleasant sensation.

With either, it is recomemmed to put the juices on your head and massage them into scalp for 5 minutes. Then let your hair dry for 10-15 minutes, then shampoo.  The smell of onion and to a point ginger will leave a smell!  You can overcome this by using leom juice as a conditioner.  It will negate the smell by 85% I am led to believe.

Having seen my father in law gain new black growth to his silver hair within 8 months of juicing is nothing short of a miracle.  Many other people have found that a change from the inside now is better than visiting the doctors and receiving bad news – your going bald…

The evidence here on the internet is amazing to say the least, regarding the benefits of juicing for hair loss.   I will be revising this post very soon before I to go bald.

Happy air growth.

Whats a healthy snack before bed – You Ask?

Popcorn!

If you are like a lot of people and don’t want to get the juicer out just before bed time but your appetite need quashing, you may be asking yourself; whats a healthy snack before bed,  You are hungry and need to supress your appetite!  OK this is not juicing I hear you say,  but it is much better than grabbing biscuits ou crisps when the munchy monster arrives.

So grabbing for anything unhealthy goes against the grain so to speak! But reality has it that the grain becomes our friend in the form of the corn grain. Thats if it is the popable kind.  Those little minuscule cute cornels of corn, that can be made so easily at home, that is popcorn could be the answer to the midnight feast you have been looking for.

Whats a healhty snack before bed?

Full of goodness, roughage and low in fat is can stave off any hunger pains quickly whilst giving you untold amounts of healthy benefits before bed.

Yes popcorn is our friend its official, not only for bed time snacks but also for a healthy snack at work, or anytime even during the day!

Whats a healthy snack before bed?

SUZANNAH HILLS Writes;

“As well as being a great diet food, popcorn also contains a high level of antioxidents, which help fight harmful molecules.

Plain popcorn has already been hailed as a great diet food for its low calorie content but now a group of scientists claim it may even top fruits and vegetables in antioxidant levels.

Antioxidants – known as polyphenols – have huge health benefits as they help fight harmful molecules that damage cells.

Popcorn was found to have a high level of concentrated antioxidants because it is made up of just four percent water while they are more diluted in fruits and vegetables because they are made up of up to 90 percent water.

Researchers discovered one serving of popcorn has up to 300mg of antioxidants – nearly double the 160mg for all fruits per serving.

They also found that the crunchy hulls of the popcorn have the highest concentration of antioxidants and fiber.

The scientists from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania unveiled their discovery at a meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego.

Researcher Joe Vinson said: ‘Those hulls deserve more respect. They are nutritional gold nuggets.”

Personally I have loved these golden nuggets for years. Growing up as a child, my Mum freshly making it on the hob, but even now as an adult made freshly for my children, the bowl is never left empty! So why not eat popcorn all the time and do away with the juicer?

“But Mr Vinson warned that people can’t forgo their five-a-day in favour of popcorn – as it doesn’t contain vital vitamins and nutrients found in fruit and vegetables.

Although he added that popcorn has many other health benefits, stating: ‘Popcorn may be the perfect snack food.

But researchers warn that while popcorn has a higher concentration of antioxidents it doesn’t contain any of the vital vitamins or other nutrients found in fruit and vegetables

‘It’s the only snack that is 100 per cent unprocessed whole grain. ‘One serving of popcorn will provide more than 70 per cent of the daily intake of whole grain.

Mr Vinson added: ‘Air-popped popcorn has the lowest number of calories while microwave popcorn has twice as many calories as air-popped.'”

So buy your corn grains from a wholefood shop or supermarket and heat them up your self.  What they forgot to say is the cost of doing it your self is much less in price and three times the fun.  To hear those little grain cracking and popping (don’t for get the lid on the pan otherwise they will be all over your kitchen like the blender juice without the lid on!) is a delight in its self.

So you may say popcorn before bed hey Hmmm?… Well look at it this way;   You get lots and lots of antioxidents (polyphenols) that work whilst your sleep (or whilst your awake) helping you to keep your system healthy and they fight the harmful cell damaging molecules. Also you get loads of great unadulterated undiluted fibre, good for the bowels and digestive track, that will help your cleansing process,  clearing toxins and waste from the colon wall.

It should be said again that there is no particular vitamin or nutrient content to shout about in popcorn so your regular juicing and eating habits should not be abandoned for this golden nugget of a grain.  But do make it yourself if you are bothered about dieting and the calories involved form eating it as a ready made purchased product.

OK  it can’t be juiced but it can bridge the gap from eating junk food.

So if your just looking for whats a healthy snack before bed then popcorn is one of your best bets. But dont forget to clean you teeth as the husks of the grain have tendency to make very good friends with you and get stuck between your teeth.

How Can I Change My Diet?

How Can I Change My Diet!

You are what you eat, That’s a given here at the Juice Junkie Journal.

So what if you are asking yourself how can I change my diet? You could start by looking at your belief systems about food and where do those beliefs come from which will have created the eating patterns you have?

Image: Grant Cochrane / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

By studying food and its effects on the body we have to consider where our food habits come from? The reality is that they have been passed down from our parents, grandparents and so forth. Our social societies and cultures that surround us as we grow up have a massive efffect on our eating habits with regard to what we think is normal and what we consider abnormal. Because it is natural we follow what we have been taught by our parents, which usually is a copy of their mothers and fathers patterns.

For instance if you were brought up in a jungle region you would most likely have a great diet of raw fresh fruits, certain vegetable and berries, some meat and fish etc. If you were brought up as an Inuit (fromerly known as Eskimo’s) in the northern hemisphere your normal diet would be made up of 75% protein and fat obtained from fish and whale meat.

I know for my self, as the son of a butcher (as was also my father), who was brought on a high protein diet of meat and meat products that I am more likely to get prostrate cancer and other illnesses (because of the high protein content) compared to someone brought up as a vegetarian. Ironically I remember whilst studying for the family business, as a meat technologogist at college, I had the thought how can people not eat meat and just eat vegetables and plants to survive – how stupid were they? It was a few years after that (whilst studying with Tony Robbins) I realised it was me that was so stupid and my ignorance had been innocently instilled into my subconciousness from my conditioning and background.

So I asked my self

How can I Change My Diet?

Our histories don’t seem to have helped us as Dr. Mercola points out below

The foods eaten by most Westerners today bear little resemblance to the foods our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate. And our lifestyles are equally non-reflective of our roots. Our bodies evolved to weather the cycles of feast and famine; to accumulate body fat easily in order to make it through times when food was scarce. But the famine never comes now, so all we have is the feast. And feast upon feast upon feast adds up to a LOT of extra body fat.

Hunter-gatherers consumed foods with high nutrition and low calories. Today, most Americans are getting the converse—high calories and low nutrition. Many are overfed, yet starving to death. Their bodies are accumulating fat and pollutants from intentional AND unintentional contaminants in our food supply, causing their biological systems to shut down and be vulnerable to a variety of chronic diseases.

Adding to the caloric excess is an exercise deficit.

As a culture, we’ve gotten away from farms and moved to cities, adopting an indoor lifestyle that expends far fewer calories. Instead of walking, we ride in cars. Instead of running from tigers, we chase cursors around a screen. We have completely lost touch with where our food comes from and what goes into creating it. Our very relationship with food has changed, and not for the better.

Very interestingly Dr Mercola also points out how we have become addicted to the food stuff presented to us by the modern day producers of processed food . Every day you learn more, who would have thought that there are correlations between the tabbaco industry and the processed food industries as he points out here;

Processed food has become a multi-billion dollar industry that dangles the carrot of “convenience.” However, the price you pay for convenience is your very health and vitality. Hungry For Change exposes the dark side of the food industry’s marketing plan—namely, the addition of certain chemicals that secretly can get you addicted and make you a perpetual customer (they hope). You can probably already see the parallels with the tobacco industry that, in the 1960s, began increasing the nicotine level in cigarettes, which kept smokers coming back for more.

One example of an addictive food additive is MSG (monosodium glutamate), which is added to 80 percent of all flavored foods. MSG excites the part of your brain that’s in charge of your fat programs. MSG is what’s known as an excitotoxin, but it’s also used to fatten up mice for scientific study. Yes, MSG is the perfect obesity drug. If you want to achieve your ideal body weight and health, avoid MSG at all costs.

Dr Mercola also expands on what was said in the opening paragraphs of this post;

People of vastly different cultures and environments thrive on all sorts of diets, from high fat and high protein to high carbohydrate; some mostly animal products and others largely vegetarian. Yet, as varied as native diets are, most native populations have very low rates of chronic disease when compared with Americans and other Western cultures. Eskimos thrive on diets rich in animal fat and muscle and organ meats, but tropical natives thrive on abundant fresh plants, fish and fruit. Yet both cultures are healthy!

So what’s the common denominator?

Native diets consist mostly of natural, whole foods (whether plant- or animal-based) rather than processed foods that come in a box or a can. Americans are eating overcooked, overprocessed and chemically manipulated fake foods, instead of REAL foods.

Native diets, in general, are largely made up of whole vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and meats. Not cooked down, refined, dehydrated and reconstituted, boxed-up pretend foods that aren’t really foods at all. Eating wisely requires a gradual transition toward the consumption of natural, whole foods that are unaltered by a lab. The closer to nature a food is, the more nutritious it will be. A change away from the cultural “norm” won’t be accomplished over night. Start gradually. As good foods are added into your diet, bad foods will eventually be crowded out.

Suat Eman / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Without being derogatory to our own upbringings It is perhaps pertinent, if you are at all concerned with your diet, that you look back at your own conditioning and knowlegde of the food stuffs you eat. Through education you can change your future and your childrens futures and on and so forth… to make for a healthier life and exiistence for all concerned from here on in.

So by asking your self How Can I Change My Diet, you are probably already on the road to doing so. By looking at your food belief structures and where they have come from will give you lots of clues. A little bit of studying will help enormously in acheiving your goal and so putting you on a path to a healtier new you. Juicing for change with the beneficial juice of raw foods  may be the way to go to break those bad unhealthy eating habits.

Healthy Juice Recipes, What Does Lazy Town Produce ?

Lazy Town Promotes Healthy Drinks For Children! Are They Healthy Juice Recipe’s?

We are all for our children being healthy but are these drinks made using healthy juice recipes?  Is it great way to get your children drinking healthy juice or is it just ‘lazy’?

The Gerber Juice Company, under license from Turner broadcasting who now own the Lazy Town brand, will release exclusively in Sainsbury’s a series of juice drink products for children.  We are told:

“The Lazy Town range, based on the popular children’s TV show, is free from artificial sweeteners, flavours, colours and preservatives.”

Anything that helps children eat, drink and associate good health with fruit and vegetables is a good thing I’m sure you’ll agree (they are not making a juice with vegetables yet I should add).  The fact that such a brilliant program has been brought to the front to promote good health and promote products like this is no surprise.

The program makes great use of the concept of sports sweets (fruit) as a message to children with the good guy Sportacus dishing out ample helping of fruit throughout the show, and the bad guy Robbie Rotten disdainfully turning his nose up at it at every opportunity.  It serves as a healthy paradox against eating sweets and makes it a lesson that’s easily digestible and fun for children to learn at the same time.

So Does Lazy Town Use Healthy Juice Recipes!

According to Packaging Europe’s Web Site tells us this:

“Super Squash, a unique, natural squash which is available in apple and raspberry, pink lemonade and orange and peach.  The Super Squash has no stabilizers or preservatives and comes in a 1.5L carton which should be stored in the fridge after opening for up to 21 days.  When diluted it contains 75% juice, delivering the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 250ml serving.  The MRRP is £3.49.

100% natural smoothies in three flavours: strawberry and banana, apple and blackcurrant and orange and pineapple.  They contain oat fibre, which delivers slow release energy, and the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 180ml. The smoothies come in 4 x 180ml cartons which is the perfect format for packed lunches.  The MRRP is £2.69.

Fit Fruits, a juice drink that comes in three flavours: apple and blackcurrant, lemon and lime and orange and peach.  These are packed in 3x200ml cartons and contain 75% juice, which means they are lower in sugar than pure juice but still 100% natural and tasty for kids.  They also provide the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 200ml serving.  The MRRP is £1.49.

Water, this product directly supports the TV show in which Sportacus promotes drinking water to children.  Lazy Town water is available in 6x330ml packs.   The MRRP is £1.29.”

As purists of juice in its purist form we should point out that these juices will have been through the process of pasteurisation or similar to ensure a good shelf life of the product and storage once opened and kept in the fridge. These heat processes used do have some harm on the goodness value, which is sometimes incorrectly perceived in drinking juices of this kind. This is why ew ask if they are healthy juice recipes.

As with all food stuffs, they do go off and manufactures have only just found ways of preserving the nutrients, vitamins and enzymes so that most of benefits are still there when we buy it off the shelves.

In conclusion it should be noted that any form of education for children towards the benefits of fruit juices over fizzy drinks, cokes and other sugar based cordials etc is a step in the right direction in food education and for their development, and well being.

Nothing can beat fresh fruit and vegetable juice drinks that are made and consumed immediately. That way you can benefit from all of the wholesome goodness as well as create your own healthy juice recipes which is always fun to experiment with.
