Can Juicing Save Your Life?

Can Juicing Save Your Life?

When celebrities proclaim the benefits of juicing, it helps spread the word (about juicing) further and wider. Making the awareness become more main stream and less of a weird concept for people to get their heads around but can juicing save your life?  It is our belief that it can save many lives not just yours if you tell people about it.

hospital-bedKnoweledge is power they say, so power to the people we say lets educate the masses.  It has become that peoples reactions are changing to juicing lately. I find I don’t get as many “Raw vegeatbles, Er you do what?” and get more “oh my mums friend does it all the time!”   Which is healthy as it means an education in juicing is now more readily available to people who want to grasp the benefits, and understand how to cure and heal themselves from the inside out.
One such person is Polly Noble who, in an aptly titled article called Confessions of a Juice Junkie says she has “been a self-confessed Juice Junkie for over 6 years since my very first cancer diagnosis.”

“That’s why for me, juicing is non-negotiable. It’s abundantly clear that having cancer, it’s super important for me to only feed myself with the best nutrition in order to alkalise my body, boost my immune system and help my body fight my disease.

This knowledge of juicing has helped Polly get over her cancer and stay clear of it.  By proclaiming and showing the benefits she helps other people to understand some of the science behind how it works and what it means to keep your bodies system in an alkalised state, rather than an acidic one, for optimum health and wellbeing.

Can Juicing Save Your Life?

“Acidity is caused by a number of factors:

  • A poor diet high in refined foods like white pasta, white bread, cookies, meat and processed foods and drinking refined and artificial sodas, alcohol and concentrated fruit juice drinks.
  • Stress is highly underrated and extremely detrimental to the internal workings of our body acidifying our pH and making us vulnerable to illness.
  • Toxic load from pollution and pharmaceutical drugs such as antibiotics
  • Negative emotions can lower your pH so think of 10 things to be grateful for and raise your pH.

A diseased body will always be acidic as this is where fungus, yeast infections and more serious diseases like cancer thrive – which is most definitely what we don’t want! So in order to stay well, it’s important to consume a diet high in alkaline forming foods such as vegetables and green leafy vegetables. And what’s the easiest way to do that? JUICE ‘EM BABY!”

I recommend reading the full article as it is very insightful into, the acidity vs alkalinity in, our bodies education.

In an age of  ‘believe what your doctors says’ and ‘take this medicine it’ll make you better’ mentality.  You have to agree being given simple advise that works is extremely valuable but you have to act on it.  Coming from people like Polly, who like many, have a reason to shout about it is just great news for the world of the Juice Junkie out there and those that want to become one.

Polly has beaten cancer twice and is determined to not get it a third time. By creating an alkalised system she gives the cells in her body the correct environment in which they can thrive and easily resist disease.

Can juicing save your life? You be the judge!  Go for green!

Raw Cannabis Juice Benefits

Raw Cannabis Juice Benefits

cannabis-leaf-for-juicingThe benefits of cannabis have been questioned and debated for a long time. We learn now that the raw cannabis juice benefits are possibly quite substantial.

These leafy pungent plants advantages may have been overlooked by us as a population and mared by it’s use as an illegal drug.  Although associated in the main stream as a bad thing, to be steered clear from,  we might just be missing a very valuable resource for our health and well being.

Providing great insight, this interesting short documentary points out that if the cannabis leaf and bud are juiced there are no psychoactive effects only healing ones, as it is not being heated or burnt which is what releases the thc and produces the “high’ from them plant that all stoners are after.

Raw Cannabis Juice Benefits

Natural News reports that:

“In raw form, marijuana leaves and buds are actually loaded with a non-psychoactive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer nutrient compound known as cannabidiol (CBD) that is proving to be a miracle “superfood” capable of preventing and reversing a host of chronic illnesses.

Though you may not have heard much about it, the CBD found in the marijuana plant — marijuana is technically just a vegetable, by the way — is a highly medicinal substance with unique immune-regulating capabilities. Since the human body already contains a built-in endogenous cannabinoid system, complete with cannabinoid receptors, inputting CBD from marijuana can help normalize the body’s functional systems, including cell communication and proper immune function.”

Consuming raw cannabis juice may provide preventative as well as symptomatic relief for a variety of illnesses.

Coed Magazine list these as the top 10

“1. Cancer

2. Seizures

3. Migraines

4. Glaucoma

5. Multiple Sclerosis

7. ADD and ADHD

8. IBS and Crohn’s

9. Alzheimer’s

10. Premenstrual Syndrome”

It is fascinating wouldn’t you say? that a plant that can provide very strong fibres from which we can make rope and clothes from, is also probably one of the best natural medicines going although misunderstood because of its druggy, stoner connotations, so the world misses out on maybe a super cure?

What do you think of the raw cannabis juice benefits, would you juice it if it to help yourself or even cure you.  Click like and share, let your friends in on the debate too.

Juicing For Heart Disease Prevention And Reversal

Juicing For Heart Disease Prevention And Reversal

Heart disease has many causes but what can we do about heart diesease prevention and reversal so as to reduce the risk of this deadly killer and keep it remaining strong and healthy for the rest of our lives?

The heart is a very efficent pumping system. It pumps the life giving blood through our bodies so we can live. When our lifestyles and food eating habits are not inline with our bodies needs it can lead to catasphophic consequences; heart disease, heart attacks and even sudden death.

What can be done to keep it away and if we have it already what can we do to reverse the process and give our bodies what it needs to heal quickly.

Some great advice form University fo Queensland in Australia.

Juicing For Heart Disease Prevention And Reversal

“A recent study released in Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases suggests that vitamin K2 may reduce risk of developing coronary heart disease or coronary artery disease, which is a common heart disease – the major death-causing disease that can lead to heart attack and stroke among other things.

Vitamin K1 is found high in plant foods including raw kale, cooked broccoli, raw spinach, raw Swiss chard and raw parsley. Early observational studies have shown that eating vegetables reduce risk of heart disease and the current study confirmed such an association indirectly.

The study led by G. Gast of the University fo Queensland in Australia and colleagues found intake of each 10 micrograms of vitamin K2 per day was associated with a 9-percent reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease and the association was inverse, meaning that the higher intake of vitamin K2 was linked to lower risk.

Because vitamin K is present in plant foods, food consumers who want to reduce their risk of coronary heart disease should eat lots of green leafy egetables daily. For those who could not eat lots of vegetables, try to take vitamin K2 supplements.

Patients need to know (this message may save your life!!!) that using a 100% plant food based diet can highly effectively prevent or even reverse progression of coronary heart disease. Studies show that more than 99% of patients who used a plant-food based diet can improve their condition and avoid invasive surgery or taking medications, according to Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a distinguished nutrition professor at Cornell University. “

There are drugs and kits on the market but it makes sense to pack your diet full of green vegetables and save your heart from calcification, decay, disease and death. After all this little pump not much bigger than your fist keeps you alive, so why not help it do just that and doing it naturally seems obvious.

Prevention is better than cure. So when you consider your intake of juice, think green vegetables, as you will be juicing for heart disease prevention and reversal which has to be a good thing right? Look after your ticker and your ticker will look after you!

Share this article if you value your friends lives. We are all at risk from heart diease and you could save or prolong someones life by doing so.

Cell Power Foods

Cell Power Foods

Each of us is made up of millions of cells, tiny living growing or dying cells.  Right now this is going on in your body   If these cells don’t get the cell power foods they need they become dysfunctional,  idle or die!

Think of your body as a structure with tiny building blocks making up that structure.  These building blocks would be the cells. These building blocks are no inanimate blocks they are real living organisms that need nourishment and sustenance. If they are given the right ingredients they will flourish and remain healthy if not they not their functionality  decreases.

Cell Power Foods

Dan the man (without the aid of his juicer) explains.

So the reality from the mouth of a juicing guru.  Cells need power and the best power you can give them seems to be from raw foods.  I am still to try a juice fast but like Dan we all learn at different rates and get around to doing things at different times.  I hope this has encouraged you to consider your cell power foods when you put your meals together.

Juicing for Weight Loss

Juicing for Weight Loss

Many people go on diets. To classifiy juicing for wieght loss as a diet in our eyes would be wrong. More like a life change, shift in thought process to who you are and what you eat.

I came across this video which illustrates that with strong will and deternination YOU CAN lose weight and be the glorious you that you want to be.

Juicing for Weight Loss

Victoria in the video shed 31 lbs of weight and shrunk her waist by 7 and a half inches! She did a juice fast for 100 days! Good on her!

She was very dedicated and committed, then if you want something badly enough you have to go all out to get it.

Which reminds me of these words of wisdom: ‘If you always do what you have always done, You will always get what you have always got!’

One thing you have in life are choices and you are the product of those choices. If you choose to go on a juice fast then get the correct knowledge to do so. If you have any kind of condtion then it is always best to seek medical advise or talk to a nutritionalist prior to starting.

So if you have weight to lose really think again about those expensive diets plans which will probably fail (have you tried before and failed?). Juicing for weight loss is a commitment you have to make and stick to. Once you have experienced how different it makes you feel for the better, then you will understand how easy it is to keep it up.

Juicing For Hair Loss

Juicing For Hair Loss.

It was my father in law who intrigued me to write this article, juicing for hair loss.  His hair has been getting thinner and thinner ever since I have known him. His silver hair has slowly been dropping out causing him to have a shiny patch of scalpe showing through commonly known as a bald pate.  Non the less, in this balding time of his life, he was not outwardly bothered about it.

Juicing For Hair LossAmazed and joyful he rang up one day to say that he was growing new hair. Lots of new healthy, not grey, but black hair, the sort he had in his youth before he started to go grey.  Now I thought this very interesting as the only thing he was doing differently was juicing once a day!  He had not gone about his juicing with the aim of hair regain, only to benefit from its overall life giving power.  The time he had been juicing for was about 8 months or so.

You can see from the picture the black hair growth. This was not there before he started to juice.

Hair loss can happen for several reasons just the onset of ageing which is probably the most the prolific but bad diet, stress, lack of sleep, illness, trauma and genetics are other causes that can lead to hair loss. Both men and women are both susceptible.

I wanted to find the facts behind hair loss and find the appropriate juices to combat it through diet.

As we know juicing is great for overall health, vitality and fitness.  So I was surprised to find that some people who had been on juice fasts had experienced hair loss to some degree. Getting to the root of the matter I learnt that if the bodies overall state is acidic (which is not favourable for good health) then when a juice fast is started the body rids itself of toxins and excess proteins that it does not need. Not every one that does a juice fast experiences this but it should be noted here that soon after the body has gained its correct state i.e.  it becomes alkaline again the hair growth does come back.

Most people that do a juice fast see remarkable results from thickening of the hair and better growth.  So if you are experiencing this short term hair loss from juicing, its your body clearing itself out and starting again… so keep going it should be worth it as your healing yourself from the inside out

Some juicing ingredients would be ones that ideally contain sources of vitamins B, C,E,

Essential for health and hair growth: Vitamin B complex’s such as leafy greens and green vegetables.  . They can be found in whole grains, potatoes, bananas, lentils, chili peppers, beans, brewers yeast and molasses.

Vitamin C, You probably think citrus fruits, oranges, lemons, limes etc.  Vegetables are rich in vitamin C. It can improve your circulation to the scalpe.  Juice broccoli, green pepper parlsely and of course lemons, limes, grapefruit etc

For hair health and enhanced hair growth vitamin E is required.   Greens that contain vitamin E include spinach, collards, mustard greens, swiss chard and turnip greens.  It is also found in eggs, nuts and seeds.

Juicing For Hairloss

My research for the best recipe’s for juicing for hair loss led me to find Chemo Hair Loss Juice Recipe by Pura Vida Pantry on Facebook. Touched by her story and knowing how traumatic Chemo is, I thought this recipe apt. I am in no doubt know it is there to be shared for the benefit of all mankind.

 Juicing For Hair Loss

“Hair-thickening Juice:

1 Cup Sprouts (alfa-alfa is a good choice but any sprouts will do)

1 Cabbage Leaves or 2 Brussel Sprouts

1 Cup Broccoli Florets

1 (Medium) Carrot

2 Slices Red Onion

1 Medium Beet & Beet Greens

1/2-1 Clove Garlic (optional, but good!)

If you need to sweeten this, add a couple slices of watermelon.

If you still don’t love it, add a couple apples until it tastes perfect!  Apples are fabulous for your skin as well.  That never hurts!

~~cabbage/broccoli/brussel sprouts/onion/garlic are all high in organic sulphur, which stimulates growth of healthy hair~~

~~carrot/broccoli/beets are all high in beta carotene which reduces inflammation in the scalp—to help u grow more hair

~~garlic improves circulation of oxygen rich blood to the scalp, also helping you begin to grow thicken, new hair.”

Other Juicing For Hair Loss Recipe’s

Hair Growth Tonic

  • Hand full dark green cale
  • 4 carrots.
  • 2 apples
  • Half cup of alfalfa sprouts

Great Green Hair Regime

  • 3 large broccoli florets
  • 2-3 green apples, seeded
  • Handfull of spinach.
  • Whole Lime (pith off)

Lean Green Hair Repair

  • 2oz wheat grass/ frozen
  • Half a handful parsley,  hand full coriander (cilantro)
  • 4 carrots Cleaned of greens and skin)
  • 1 stalk celery
  • ½ cup chopped fennel
  • Half an apple, seeded

Handsome Hair

  • Handful parsley
  • Handful spinach
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 2 stalks celery

Even onion juice massaged into raw the scalpe helps stimulating the acidity / alkalinity balance of the scalpe. Ginger root Juice also stimulates the scalp from the outside. Like using tea tree extract ( a natural anti septic) you can feel your hair and head tingle with a pleasant sensation.

With either, it is recomemmed to put the juices on your head and massage them into scalp for 5 minutes. Then let your hair dry for 10-15 minutes, then shampoo.  The smell of onion and to a point ginger will leave a smell!  You can overcome this by using leom juice as a conditioner.  It will negate the smell by 85% I am led to believe.

Having seen my father in law gain new black growth to his silver hair within 8 months of juicing is nothing short of a miracle.  Many other people have found that a change from the inside now is better than visiting the doctors and receiving bad news – your going bald…

The evidence here on the internet is amazing to say the least, regarding the benefits of juicing for hair loss.   I will be revising this post very soon before I to go bald.

Happy air growth.

Whats a healthy snack before bed – You Ask?

Popcorn!

If you are like a lot of people and don’t want to get the juicer out just before bed time but your appetite need quashing, you may be asking yourself; whats a healthy snack before bed,  You are hungry and need to supress your appetite!  OK this is not juicing I hear you say,  but it is much better than grabbing biscuits ou crisps when the munchy monster arrives.

So grabbing for anything unhealthy goes against the grain so to speak! But reality has it that the grain becomes our friend in the form of the corn grain. Thats if it is the popable kind.  Those little minuscule cute cornels of corn, that can be made so easily at home, that is popcorn could be the answer to the midnight feast you have been looking for.

Whats a healhty snack before bed?

Full of goodness, roughage and low in fat is can stave off any hunger pains quickly whilst giving you untold amounts of healthy benefits before bed.

Yes popcorn is our friend its official, not only for bed time snacks but also for a healthy snack at work, or anytime even during the day!

Whats a healthy snack before bed?

SUZANNAH HILLS Writes;

“As well as being a great diet food, popcorn also contains a high level of antioxidents, which help fight harmful molecules.

Plain popcorn has already been hailed as a great diet food for its low calorie content but now a group of scientists claim it may even top fruits and vegetables in antioxidant levels.

Antioxidants – known as polyphenols – have huge health benefits as they help fight harmful molecules that damage cells.

Popcorn was found to have a high level of concentrated antioxidants because it is made up of just four percent water while they are more diluted in fruits and vegetables because they are made up of up to 90 percent water.

Researchers discovered one serving of popcorn has up to 300mg of antioxidants – nearly double the 160mg for all fruits per serving.

They also found that the crunchy hulls of the popcorn have the highest concentration of antioxidants and fiber.

The scientists from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania unveiled their discovery at a meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego.

Researcher Joe Vinson said: ‘Those hulls deserve more respect. They are nutritional gold nuggets.”

Personally I have loved these golden nuggets for years. Growing up as a child, my Mum freshly making it on the hob, but even now as an adult made freshly for my children, the bowl is never left empty! So why not eat popcorn all the time and do away with the juicer?

“But Mr Vinson warned that people can’t forgo their five-a-day in favour of popcorn – as it doesn’t contain vital vitamins and nutrients found in fruit and vegetables.

Although he added that popcorn has many other health benefits, stating: ‘Popcorn may be the perfect snack food.

But researchers warn that while popcorn has a higher concentration of antioxidents it doesn’t contain any of the vital vitamins or other nutrients found in fruit and vegetables

‘It’s the only snack that is 100 per cent unprocessed whole grain. ‘One serving of popcorn will provide more than 70 per cent of the daily intake of whole grain.

Mr Vinson added: ‘Air-popped popcorn has the lowest number of calories while microwave popcorn has twice as many calories as air-popped.'”

Click here and the full article.

So buy your corn grains from a wholefood shop or supermarket and heat them up your self.  What they forgot to say is the cost of doing it your self is much less in price and three times the fun.  To hear those little grain cracking and popping (don’t for get the lid on the pan otherwise they will be all over your kitchen like the blender juice without the lid on!) is a delight in its self.

So you may say popcorn before bed hey Hmmm?… Well look at it this way;   You get lots and lots of antioxidents (polyphenols) that work whilst your sleep (or whilst your awake) helping you to keep your system healthy and they fight the harmful cell damaging molecules. Also you get loads of great unadulterated undiluted fibre, good for the bowels and digestive track, that will help your cleansing process,  clearing toxins and waste from the colon wall.

What a healhty snack before bed? 2Picture credit: Carlos Porto

It should be said again that there is no particular vitamin or nutrient content to shout about in popcorn so your regular juicing and eating habits should not be abandoned for this golden nugget of a grain.  But do make it yourself if you are bothered about dieting and the calories involved form eating it as a ready made purchased product.

OK  it can’t be juiced but it can bridge the gap from eating junk food.

So if your just looking for whats a healthy snack before bed then popcorn is one of your best bets. But dont forget to clean you teeth as the husks of the grain have tendency to make very good friends with you and get stuck between your teeth.

How Can I Change My Diet?

How Can I Change My Diet!

You are what you eat, That’s a given here at the Juice Junkie Journal.

So what if you are asking yourself how can I change my diet? You could start by looking at your belief systems about food and where do those beliefs come from which will have created the eating patterns you have?

Image: Grant Cochrane / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

By studying food and its effects on the body we have to consider where our food habits come from? The reality is that they have been passed down from our parents, grandparents and so forth. Our social societies and cultures that surround us as we grow up have a massive efffect on our eating habits with regard to what we think is normal and what we consider abnormal. Because it is natural we follow what we have been taught by our parents, which usually is a copy of their mothers and fathers patterns.

For instance if you were brought up in a jungle region you would most likely have a great diet of raw fresh fruits, certain vegetable and berries, some meat and fish etc. If you were brought up as an Inuit (fromerly known as Eskimo’s) in the northern hemisphere your normal diet would be made up of 75% protein and fat obtained from fish and whale meat.

I know for my self, as the son of a butcher (as was also my father), who was brought on a high protein diet of meat and meat products that I am more likely to get prostrate cancer and other illnesses (because of the high protein content) compared to someone brought up as a vegetarian. Ironically I remember whilst studying for the family business, as a meat technologogist at college, I had the thought how can people not eat meat and just eat vegetables and plants to survive – how stupid were they? It was a few years after that (whilst studying with Tony Robbins) I realised it was me that was so stupid and my ignorance had been innocently instilled into my subconciousness from my conditioning and background.

So I asked my self

How can I Change My Diet?

Our histories don’t seem to have helped us as Dr. Mercola points out below

The foods eaten by most Westerners today bear little resemblance to the foods our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate. And our lifestyles are equally non-reflective of our roots. Our bodies evolved to weather the cycles of feast and famine; to accumulate body fat easily in order to make it through times when food was scarce. But the famine never comes now, so all we have is the feast. And feast upon feast upon feast adds up to a LOT of extra body fat.

Hunter-gatherers consumed foods with high nutrition and low calories. Today, most Americans are getting the converse—high calories and low nutrition. Many are overfed, yet starving to death. Their bodies are accumulating fat and pollutants from intentional AND unintentional contaminants in our food supply, causing their biological systems to shut down and be vulnerable to a variety of chronic diseases.

Adding to the caloric excess is an exercise deficit.

As a culture, we’ve gotten away from farms and moved to cities, adopting an indoor lifestyle that expends far fewer calories. Instead of walking, we ride in cars. Instead of running from tigers, we chase cursors around a screen. We have completely lost touch with where our food comes from and what goes into creating it. Our very relationship with food has changed, and not for the better.

Very interestingly Dr Mercola also points out how we have become addicted to the food stuff presented to us by the modern day producers of processed food . Every day you learn more, who would have thought that there are correlations between the tabbaco industry and the processed food industries as he points out here;

Processed food has become a multi-billion dollar industry that dangles the carrot of “convenience.” However, the price you pay for convenience is your very health and vitality. Hungry For Change exposes the dark side of the food industry’s marketing plan—namely, the addition of certain chemicals that secretly can get you addicted and make you a perpetual customer (they hope). You can probably already see the parallels with the tobacco industry that, in the 1960s, began increasing the nicotine level in cigarettes, which kept smokers coming back for more.

One example of an addictive food additive is MSG (monosodium glutamate), which is added to 80 percent of all flavored foods. MSG excites the part of your brain that’s in charge of your fat programs. MSG is what’s known as an excitotoxin, but it’s also used to fatten up mice for scientific study. Yes, MSG is the perfect obesity drug. If you want to achieve your ideal body weight and health, avoid MSG at all costs.

Dr Mercola also expands on what was said in the opening paragraphs of this post;

People of vastly different cultures and environments thrive on all sorts of diets, from high fat and high protein to high carbohydrate; some mostly animal products and others largely vegetarian. Yet, as varied as native diets are, most native populations have very low rates of chronic disease when compared with Americans and other Western cultures. Eskimos thrive on diets rich in animal fat and muscle and organ meats, but tropical natives thrive on abundant fresh plants, fish and fruit. Yet both cultures are healthy!

So what’s the common denominator?

Native diets consist mostly of natural, whole foods (whether plant- or animal-based) rather than processed foods that come in a box or a can. Americans are eating overcooked, overprocessed and chemically manipulated fake foods, instead of REAL foods.

Native diets, in general, are largely made up of whole vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and meats. Not cooked down, refined, dehydrated and reconstituted, boxed-up pretend foods that aren’t really foods at all. Eating wisely requires a gradual transition toward the consumption of natural, whole foods that are unaltered by a lab. The closer to nature a food is, the more nutritious it will be. A change away from the cultural “norm” won’t be accomplished over night. Start gradually. As good foods are added into your diet, bad foods will eventually be crowded out.

Suat Eman / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Without being derogatory to our own upbringings It is perhaps pertinent, if you are at all concerned with your diet, that you look back at your own conditioning and knowlegde of the food stuffs you eat. Through education you can change your future and your childrens futures and on and so forth… to make for a healthier life and exiistence for all concerned from here on in.

So by asking your self How Can I Change My Diet, you are probably already on the road to doing so. By looking at your food belief structures and where they have come from will give you lots of clues. A little bit of studying will help enormously in acheiving your goal and so putting you on a path to a healtier new you. Juicing for change with the beneficial juice of raw foods  may be the way to go to break those bad unhealthy eating habits.

Healthy Juice Recipes, What Does Lazy Town Produce ?

Lazy Town Promotes Healthy Drinks For Children! Are They Healthy Juice Recipe’s?

We are all for our children being healthy but are these drinks made using healthy juice recipes?  Is it great way to get your children drinking healthy juice or is it just ‘lazy’?

The Gerber Juice Company, under license from Turner broadcasting who now own the Lazy Town brand, will release exclusively in Sainsbury’s a series of juice drink products for children.  We are told:

“The Lazy Town range, based on the popular children’s TV show, is free from artificial sweeteners, flavours, colours and preservatives.”

Anything that helps children eat, drink and associate good health with fruit and vegetables is a good thing I’m sure you’ll agree (they are not making a juice with vegetables yet I should add).  The fact that such a brilliant program has been brought to the front to promote good health and promote products like this is no surprise.

The program makes great use of the concept of sports sweets (fruit) as a message to children with the good guy Sportacus dishing out ample helping of fruit throughout the show, and the bad guy Robbie Rotten disdainfully turning his nose up at it at every opportunity.  It serves as a healthy paradox against eating sweets and makes it a lesson that’s easily digestible and fun for children to learn at the same time.

So Does Lazy Town Use Healthy Juice Recipes!

According to Packaging Europe’s Web Site tells us this:

“Super Squash, a unique, natural squash which is available in apple and raspberry, pink lemonade and orange and peach.  The Super Squash has no stabilizers or preservatives and comes in a 1.5L carton which should be stored in the fridge after opening for up to 21 days.  When diluted it contains 75% juice, delivering the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 250ml serving.  The MRRP is £3.49.

100% natural smoothies in three flavours: strawberry and banana, apple and blackcurrant and orange and pineapple.  They contain oat fibre, which delivers slow release energy, and the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 180ml. The smoothies come in 4 x 180ml cartons which is the perfect format for packed lunches.  The MRRP is £2.69.

Fit Fruits, a juice drink that comes in three flavours: apple and blackcurrant, lemon and lime and orange and peach.  These are packed in 3x200ml cartons and contain 75% juice, which means they are lower in sugar than pure juice but still 100% natural and tasty for kids.  They also provide the equivalent of one portion of fruit per 200ml serving.  The MRRP is £1.49.

As purists of juice in its purist form we should point out that these juices will have been through the process of pasteurisation or similar to ensure a good shelf life of the product and storage once opened and kept in the fridge. These heat processes used do have some harm on the goodness value, which is sometimes incorrectly perceived in drinking juices of this kind. This is why ew ask if they are healthy juice recipes.

As with all food stuffs, they do go off and manufactures have only just found ways of preserving the nutrients, vitamins and enzymes so that most of benefits are still there when we buy it off the shelves.

In conclusion it should be noted that any form of education for children towards the benefits of fruit juices over fizzy drinks, cokes and other sugar based cordials etc is a step in the right direction in food education and for their development, and well being.

Nothing can beat fresh fruit and vegetable juice drinks that are made and consumed immediately. That way you can benefit from all of the wholesome goodness as well as create your own healthy juice recipes which is always fun to experiment with.

Juice Fast Plan To Cleanse Or Not To Cleanse?

Juice Fast Plan To Cleanse Or Not To Cleanse?

Juicing occasionally or going full out with a juice fast plan for detoxification is open for debate.

One thing becomes very apparent reading articles written on juicing and being on a juice fast plan, is that it does provide you with a good dietary intake of what is required for your body to function correctly. Providing it with a high intake of the essential vitamins, amino acids, nutrients and such like that our bodies cells need to have in order to function correctly.

Ok it’s common knowledge junk food with all the preservatives and other nasties don’t make for a good healthy existence and yet when illness sets upon us we are plied with chemicals to readdress the balance and so put us back on the road to health.

Are cause and effect linked here? Imagine the bodies system is just like a cars engine where if you don’t change the oil then the engine eventually will clog up and breakdown. Your body is no different with its various filters and moving parts, if the correct fuel and lubricants (food and fluids) are not used then you too are likely to suffer from the same demise. Then rather than visit the garage you see a doctor who gives you the required pharmaceutical equivalent of spare part or overhaul to get us back on the road to health.

juice-fast-planSo you may be thinking how does this relate to juice and a juice fast plan? Well just like if we look after our car and have it serviced and change the oil regally you can still become ill right? So surely what you put in is what you get out, continue with the junk food after you have regained health and you are likely to fall ill again. By using raw fruit and vegetables in juice or smoothie form you allow your bodies own system to run on only the best fuel you can give it. This is turn stops the build up of toxins and bad fats and thus allows the cells that you are made up of to function correctly.

By cleansing (detoxing) your body with juice or taking on a juice fast plan as a way of cleaning your body out, does seem quite sever and radical only because you are probably not willing to get used to the fact that drinking your food is the way to go. Are you set in your ways, so to speak? People, believe it or not are jumping on the juice diet as a way to gain more health and weight loss for their own benefit. Some are paying good money for purchasing juice cleanse products rather than juicing for them selves.

Here Are Some Truths About Doing A Juice Fast Plan.

by Melissa Valliant of HellaWella.com

“1. It’s dangerous for some people.

People undergoing chemotherapy, diabetics, people with nutritional deficiencies and people with kidney disease should not try a juice fast. The high sugar consumption involved in juice fasts can skyrocket blood-sugar levels in diabetics, which can result in fatigue, unexplained weight loss, blurry vision, excessive hunger and thirst, and wounds or infections that heal more slowly than usual.

According to USA Today, the high levels of potassium and minerals from excessive juice consumption can build up in the blood to hazardous levels in those with kidney disease. And the high levels of antioxidants and low levels of protein can be dangerous for those undergoing chemo.

2. Juicing is not better than whole fruits and vegetables. In fact, it removes some nutrients.

While the juice form does hydrate and supply nutrients, registered dietitian Jennifer Nelson says there’s no reliable scientific research to support claims that juicing your produce is healthier than eating it whole. Actually, the fiber and some of the antioxidants found in the skins and seeds of fruits and vegetables are often eliminated in the juicing process. For example, the white pulp in an orange provides flavonoids, but that’s usually left behind.

Because juice doesn’t offer the fiber contained in fruits and veggies, the body absorbs fructose sugar more easily, which can affect blood-sugar levels, according to Food Republic. If you do decide to try a juice cleanse, drink more veggie juices (carrots and beets not included) and limit fruit juice to one glass a day in order to avoid this potential side effect.

None of this means you shouldn’t drink juice. It simply means, instead of drinking only juice for weeks, a healthier route might just be including juices in a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains.

3. Juices are less filling than whole fruits and vegetables.

You’re not going to feel as satisfied and full if you drink your meals instead of chewing them, Livestrong.com explains. Additionally, the fiber that’s been left out of the juice would have helped slow consumption and make you feel more sated.

4. Juice fasts can leave out critical nutrients your body needs to function properly.

You should always be skeptical when a diet requires extreme restrictions and cuts out entire food groups. There’s a reason dietary guidelines include various categories of food: You can’t get all of your essential vitamins and minerals out of just one.

Livestrong.com explains that juice fasts frequently lack substantial amounts of protein and fat. “Few fruits contain significant amounts of fat and protein, and vegetables that contain these macronutrients — such as avocados, beans and lentils — do not lend themselves to juicing,” Livestrong says. “Without sufficient protein, your body has no raw materials with which to build new tissue. A lack of fat leaves your skin and hair in poor shape and contributes to malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins.”

Extend your juice fast, and you might just cause serious damage. Dr. Glenn D. Braunstein, chairman of the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, says thatlonger fasts could result in electrolyte imbalances. Additionally, if you’re not getting enough calories, your body could start using muscle tissue instead of fat for energy.

5. Like most fad diets, a juice fast is not an effective way to lose weight and keep it off.

Will you lose weight? Probably — you’re cutting out all of the fat from your diet and drastically lowering your caloric intake. But you’ll most likely put it right back on after the fast.

“There’s nothing wrong with going on a juice fast for a few days,” said Dr. James Dillard, assistant clinical professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, on WebMD. “But it’s not a great way to lose weight, because you’ll gain it all back — you yo-yo. It’s just like the Atkins diet. The weight you lose is water weight.” And Dr. Braunstein (of Cedars-Sinai) says this type of deprivation can also result in dizziness, nausea, constipation, fatigue and irritability.

Additionally, if you do this to your body enough, you could permanently lower your metabolism — as if it’s not tough enough to lose weight as it is. New York Times writerJudith Newman tried a juice cleanse and wrote about her experience: “This kind of cleansing puts a lot of stress on your body,” she wrote. “Your body wants and expects food. And as with most crash diets, which is really what this is, your body thinks it’s starving. It doesn’t know it’s going to get more food. So it lowers your metabolism, and if you do this enough, it can lower your metabolism permanently.”

Juice-fast-plan-to-go6. There isn’t really anything to detox.

Don’t get me wrong: A “detox diet” to rid my body of all the crap I’ve recently put in it sounds convincing, even to me. Who wouldn’t want to “cleanse” their body of all the chemicals, fat and alcohol they’ve consumed? The fact is, though, our body does an excellent job of this already; our liver, kidneys and intestines filter the unwanted things we ingest and expel them through urine, bowel movements, breath and sweat. We don’t need to punish ourselves with strict juice-only diets to eliminate the bad stuff.

People were talking about detoxification back in the early 1900s, according to QuackWatch. Supporters of the process claimed that “intestinal sluggishness causes intestinal contents to putrefy, toxins are absorbed and chronic poisoning of the body results.” Scientists abandoned this theory, though, in the 1930s, and these mysterious “toxins” that everyone keeps trying to get rid of have never been discovered.

“Our bodies are very good at eliminating all the nasties that we might ingest over the festive season,” said Dr. John Emsley, a chemical scientist quoted in the Washington Times in a story about the potential of detox diets to get rid of all the junk we put in our bodies over the holidays. The idea of detoxing our bodies by “drinking fancy bottled water or sipping herbal teas is just nonsense.”

7. It’s not cheap.

Juice cleanses are a business — a booming one at that. As of February 2011, the boutique cleanse segment was valued at almost $60 billion by Marketdata Enterprises. BluePrintCleanse, a popular New York-based manufacturer, will charge you $65 a day for its cleansing package of juices. Los Angeles-based Pressed Juicery offers three different cleanse packages, each providing five juices and one almond milk for a total cost of $70 a day.

Want to juice at home? Get ready to put down some money. Juicers range from $30 to $300. And since you shouldn’t be saving unpasteurized juice for later, you might want to buy one for the office while you’re at it.

8. “But my friend did it and said she felt amazing!”

It’s true. Many people who try these detox diets report having more energy and feeling more focused. However, as Mayo Clinic explains, this could be due to the belief that they’re doing something good for their bodies.

That said, you could also argue that there’s nothing wrong with a placebo effect if it does the job. As the NYT writer who tried one of these cleanses wrote, “What’s so bad about feeling a little better, even if there’s no demonstrable proof that you actually are better?”

9. It’s not going to cure cancer.

Proponents of the juice fast claim it will cure your case of the sniffles and even treat cancer. There has been no scientific evidence suggesting it will do anything but help increase your vitamin intake — which, yes, could benefit your health, but the calorie restriction and lack of protein might actually slow healing. Your body needs all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it can get to heal. The best thing you can do with your diet is to make sure you’re not depriving it of an essential nutrient and eat balanced, well-portioned meals.

As for cancer, the American Cancer Society states that current scientific research does not support fasting (including juice fasting) to treat it. Additionally, as previously stated, those undergoing chemotherapy should not attempt a juice fast because of the risk posed by the high levels of antioxidants and low levels of protein.”

It seems that prevention is better than cure. By using a juice fast plan to initially cleanse your system and then keeping to a healthy diet, so you are getting the required proteins and fats, whilst still regally juicing seems the way to go. Although their is no scientific evidence to back up the health claims of juicing, people who do do it report having more energy, feeling more focused, feeling amazing to quote just a few!
